BlackBerry has a Tablet

It's smaller than the iPad but it runs Flash - will that be enough to compete?

BlackBerry Playbook

Rim Announces the BlackBerry Playbook

The BlackBerry playbook, recently announced by Rim, and set to ship later this year is the Rim answer to the iPad.  Without pricing information (not yet available at the time of this posting) it’s hard to tell how the Playbook will fare.  Like all mobile devices and mobile markets value will be the key.  What value does it  bring?  The key here will be applications.  What corporate contributions the device can make is entirely a function of the quality and ingenuity of the applications that run on the device.

With a 7 inch screen the Playbook is much smaller than the iPad, but it runs Flash.  Apple and Adobe had a messy public debate over Flash and BlackBerry will capitalize on that.  Also on the upside is the weight – at less than 1 lb it’s more than 30% lighter and even that half pound can make a difference in usability.

Again the real key will be the applications that companies make and deploy on the mobile devices.  Apple has a head start, but they have blown the lead more than once in the past.  For your Tablet Application development needs, and specifically for your Playbook Application Development needs please give us a call and see how we can help you leverage this emerging tablet platform.
